Hardangervidda Essentials

Hardangervidda is Europe's largest high-mountain plateau, spanning over 3,422 square kilometers across central Norway. This selection includes the four major waterfalls of the Husedalen Valley—Tveitafossen, Nyastølfossen, Nykkjesøyfossen, and Søtefossen—which descend from the plateau toward Kinsarvik. It also features the Nupsfonn glacier and key DNT mountain huts like Rauhelleren and Litlos, which serve as essential hubs for multi-day trekking routes across this wild tundra landscape, inhabited by Northern Europe’s largest wild reindeer herds.

Nykkjesøyfossen

The third waterfall in the Husedalen Valley sequence, located at an elevation of 600 meters where the river levels out into a mountain meadow.

Tveitafossen

The first and lowest waterfall in the Husedalen Valley trek, utilized for hydroelectric power with a visible pipeline and service stairs following the water's descent.

Nyastølfossen

The second waterfall in the Husedalen Valley, characterized by a powerful vertical drop and accessible via a steep forest trail.

Søtefossen

Rauhelleren

Sandhaug

Litlos

One of the most remote staffed cabins on the plateau, situated in a lush area known for its diverse bird life and high-altitude fishing lakes.

Nupsfonn

A small glacier located in the southwestern part of the plateau near the Haukelifjell mountain pass.
