Amazon Nature Reserves

Loreto, Peru’s northernmost region, encompasses vast tracts of the Amazon rainforest and the headwaters of the Amazon River. This selection highlights major conservation areas, including the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, the largest in Peru. These reserves protect critical habitats for endangered species like pink river dolphins and giant otters. The list also includes communal reserves like Huimeki and Airo Pai, which are managed alongside indigenous communities to preserve both biological diversity and traditional cultural practices near the borders with Ecuador and Colombia.
