This collection features the historic postal milestones and distance pillars of the Ore Mountains, primarily commissioned by Elector Frederick Augustus I of Saxony in the early 18th century. These monuments, ranging from large town distance pillars to smaller quarter-mile stones, were essential for standardizing travel and mail delivery. Each pillar represents a significant feat of Baroque engineering and administration, marking the ancient trade routes that once connected this mining region to the rest of the Electorate of Saxony.
