Historical Sites of Western Serbia

Western Serbia’s historical landscape features UNESCO-protected medieval necropolises like Mramorje and Rastiste, alongside cliffside fortifications such as the Užice and Mileševac fortresses. The region is a spiritual center, home to the Mileševa Monastery—famous for its 13th-century "White Angel" fresco—and the Raška-style Davidovica Monastery. Industrial history is represented by the "Pod gradom" hydroelectric plant, the first in Europe built according to Nikola Tesla’s polyphase current principles.
