Alpine Huts & Shelters

The High Tatras feature a historic network of alpine huts, known locally as 'chaty,' many of which have served hikers for over a century. These shelters, ranging from the 19th-century Rainerova Hut to the high-altitude Chata pod Rysmi at 2,250 meters, provide essential services including meals and lodging. Most are accessible only by foot, with supplies often delivered by traditional mountain porters. They offer strategic rest points along major hiking trails like the Tatranská Magistrála.

Cottage at the Green Mountain Lake

Cottage at the Green Glacial Lake is a place to head for if you are looking for a challenging or moderately challenging hike.

Zamkovského Hut

Zamkovského hut was built by an avid mountaineer and mountain guide Štefan Zamkovský.

Téryho Hut

Téryho Hut is 2 015 m a.s.l. and is one of the most frequented alpine huts by hikers.

Zbojnícka Hut

Zbojnícka Hut is one of the older alpine huts built in the High Tatras.

Rainerova Hut

Rainerova Hut is the oldest alpine hut in the High Tatras built in 1863.

Horský hotel Popradské pleso

Year-round mountain hotel and hut located at 1,494 meters on the shore of Popradské pleso. It serves as a major junction for hikers heading toward Rysy and Kôprovský štít.

Skalnatá chata

Alpine shelter situated at 1,751 meters in the Skalnatá Valley. Located near the Skalnaté pleso cable car station, it sits directly on the Tatranská Magistrála hiking trail.

Chata pod Soliskom

The youngest high-altitude hut in the High Tatras, built in 1944. Situated at 1,840 meters on the slopes of Predné Solisko, it is accessible year-round by chairlift or hiking trail.

Chata pod Rysmi

The highest-altitude mountain hut in the High Tatras, sitting at 2,250 meters. It is open only during the summer season and is supplied exclusively by mountain porters.

Bílikova chata

Year-round alpine hut located at 1,285 meters on the forested slope of Slavkovský štít. It is easily accessible via a short walk from the Hrebienok funicular station.

Sliezky dom

The highest-altitude hotel in Slovakia, located at 1,670 meters at the base of Gerlachovský štít. Situated in the Velická Valley, it offers modern facilities and year-round access.
