South Bohemian Museum

Founded in 1877, the museum is housed in a monumental Neo-Renaissance building constructed between 1899 and 1901. The facility, which opened to the public in 1903, serves as a central regional institution managing collections across four locations. The main building hosts concerts and educational programs alongside its primary displays.

The permanent exhibitions focus on the nature, history, and folk art of the South Bohemian region. Key collections encompass archaeology, ethnography, prehistory, and the Middle Ages. Specialized displays include an exhibition dedicated to the horse-drawn railway and the memorial of Jan Žižka, a notable military leader. The museum also organizes regular thematic exhibitions and is open to the public.
