Part of the Franciscan convent, this church is famous for its extravagantly frescoed dome. Inside the basilica, you can find imposing paintings by Zurbarán and Francisco de Goya, which is a must-see and not just for art lovers!
Commissioned by King Carlos III, the basilica was built in 1760 and it once served as the National Pantheon. It is not the first church occupying this site though. One of its predecessors was even linked to the persona of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Located in the La Latina neighbourhood, it is only a short walk from Plaza de la Cebada. This place is easily accessible via metro - the nearest stations are La Latina and Puerta de Toledo.
