Church of San Ginés

Local nameParroquia de San Ginés
LocationSol, Madrid, Spain

Admire one of the oldest standing churches in Madrid which breaths with history. Some sources suggest that this church dates back to the 9th century.

The church contains paintings by famous artists such as Alonso Cano, Luca Giordano and el Greco. Also, the famous Spanish dramatist Lope de Vega was baptized here.

Among other interesting and sacred artifacts in this church, you can also see one that is quite peculiar - a stuffed crocodile, which has probably been brought here during the reign of King Ferdinand II of Aragon.

Located right next to the church, the Chocolatería San Ginés, serves traditional churros with hot chocolate.

You can get here from the metro stations Sol (lines 1, 2 and 3), Opera (lines 2 and 5), and Callao (lines 3 and 5).
