This Baroque church was built between 1691 and 1709 on the site of the former convent of San Pablo el Real. Designed by architect Leonardo de Figueroa, the structure features a facade with three portals and a nave containing five chapels. It is notable for its dome, which was the first in the city to be constructed on an octagonal drum. The building was declared a National Monument and a Site of Cultural Interest in 1970.
The interior is characterized by rich decoration, including intricate stuccoes and a gold patina. The main altarpiece is the second largest in the city. Notable artistic contributions include a magnificent altarpiece by Lucas Valdés and works by Pedro Duque Cornejo. The church serves as the seat for several religious confraternities and brotherhoods.
As a functioning parish, the church hosts regular community activities and remains an active place of worship. Weekly outreach sessions are held on Thursday evenings from 19:00 to 20:00 in the parish office.
