Auckland’s performance scene spans from the 1929 atmospheric Civic Theatre to modern waterfront developments. This collection features major venues like the Aotea Centre, which hosts the New Zealand Opera and Royal New Zealand Ballet, alongside boutique independent cinemas like the Lido and the Academy. Many venues are housed in significant heritage buildings, such as the repurposed PumpHouse on Lake Pupuke and the Hollywood Cinema in Avondale, which dates back to 1915 and retains its original Wurlitzer organ.
