Best Beaches of Dingle

The Dingle Peninsula’s coastline features a diverse range of Atlantic beaches, from the three-mile sand spit at Inch to the rugged, cliff-backed Coumeenoole Bay. Many of these locations, including Clogher Strand and Beal Bán, offer views of the Blasket Islands and the Brandon Mountains. These spots are known for specific activities like the annual horse races at Beal Bán or the consistent surf breaks at Formoyle and Inch.

Inch Beach

A three-mile long sand spit extending into Dingle Bay. It is a major surfing destination and served as a filming location for the 1970 film Ryan's Daughter.

Coumeenoole Bay

Located on the Slea Head Drive, this cove is surrounded by jagged cliffs. It features strong Atlantic currents and views of the Blasket Islands.

Clogher Strand

A horseshoe-shaped bay known for powerful swells and views of Inishtooskert, known as the Sleeping Giant. Swimming is dangerous here due to heavy undercurrents.

Wine Strand

A sheltered, sandy cove located near Ballyferriter. Its calm waters provide a contrast to the more exposed Atlantic beaches on the western tip of the peninsula.

Beal Bán

A wide sandy beach near Ballyferriter that hosts the annual Dingle Horse and Pony Races. It offers views across Smerwick Harbour toward the Three Sisters cliffs.

Formoyle Beach

Part of a 12-mile stretch of sand along Brandon Bay, this is one of the longest beaches in Ireland. It is a frequent location for shore angling and windsurfing.

Sandy Bay Beach

A shallow beach located on the Maharees peninsula near Castlegregory. It is a hub for watersports, including paddleboarding and windsurfing, due to its protected position.

Trá Ciarán Beach

A small, quiet beach located near Ventry on the southern side of the peninsula. It offers a sheltered alternative to the larger, more exposed Atlantic strands.
