Historic Sites and Viewpoints
This collection highlights Girona’s defensive evolution and architectural landmarks. A Castell de Montjuïc
A bastion built in 1653 by order of Felipe IV to defend the city. Located on Montjuïc mountain, it played a key role during the Napoleonic sieges.
B Pont de les Peixateries Velles
An iron pedestrian bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel’s company in 1877. It crosses the Onyar River, connecting the old town with the modern center.
C Statue of the defenders of Girona
Located in Plaça de la Independència, this monument honors the citizens who defended Girona during the Napoleonic sieges of 1808 and 1809.
D Girona City Walls
Restored Carolingian and medieval fortifications. The Passeig de la Muralla walkway offers views of the cathedral, the old town, and the Pyrenees.
E Pont de Pedra
A three-arched stone bridge constructed in 1856 during the reign of Isabel II, serving as a main entrance to the Barri Vell.
Castell de Sant Miquel
Hilltop ruins of a fortification and chapel. Features a restored tower providing 360-degree views of the Gavarres mountains and the Girona plain.
G Castell de Sant Miquel
Ruined medieval castle and chapel site. The remaining tower serves as a viewpoint overlooking the surrounding countryside and the city.
H Lion
A 12th-century Romanesque stone sculpture. Local tradition dictates that visitors must kiss the lioness to ensure their return to the city.
Fort del Calvari
Remains of a 17th-century fort built to strengthen the city's defenses during the Reapers' War, located near the upper city walls.
