Himeji Essentials

Himeji is defined by its iconic 17th-century castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring a complex of 83 buildings. Adjacent, Kōko-en comprises nine distinct Edo-style gardens. On Mount Shosha, the 10th-century Engyō-ji temple complex offers historical wooden halls and is reached via the Shoshazan Ropeway. Beyond the historical center, the city features the Tegarayama area with its botanical gardens and aquarium, as well as Himeji Central Park, which operates as the only safari park in the Kansai region.
