Ancient Wonders

Chogha Zanbil A

Chogha Zanbil

Chogha Zanbil is an ancient Elamite complex in the Khuzestan province of Iran. It is one of the few existing ziggurats outside Mesopotamia.

Royal City

The Apadana of Susa was the winter palace of Achaemenid kings, built by Darius the Great around 521 BC. The site features a grand audience hall that once held 72 columns and was decorated with glazed brick reliefs.

Kakh darywsh

Constructed on an artificial platform, this palace served as an administrative center for the Achaemenid Empire. The ruins include residential quarters and courtyards that reflect the architectural style found at Persepolis.

Salasel Castle

A massive defensive fortification in Shushtar, this castle was a vital component of the UNESCO-listed hydraulic system. It served as the control center for the Karun River's water flow and housed the regional governor during the Sassanid era.

The remains of a Sassanid intellectual center that once housed a world-renowned medical school and academy. Founded by Shapur I, it served as a major hub for Greek, Persian, and Indian scholarship.

A Sassanid-era Zoroastrian fire temple featuring the characteristic chahartaq architectural form. It consists of a square chamber covered by a dome supported by four corner arches.
