Barletta Essentials

Barletta’s historical significance spans from the site of Hannibal’s victory at Cannae to the 1503 'Challenge' between Italian and French knights. The city center is defined by the dual-style Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral and an imposing Norman-Swabian castle. As a former transit point for Crusaders, the city features the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, while the Baroque Palazzo della Marra houses a major collection of Impressionist works by local painter Giuseppe De Nittis.
