Krka National Park: Absolute Essentials

Krka National Park encompasses the middle and lower course of the Krka River, characterized by travertine barriers and unique karst formations. This selection highlights the park's major waterfalls, including the expansive Skradinski Buk and the 60-meter-high Manojlovac. Beyond its hydrology, the list covers cultural landmarks such as the 14th-century Krka Monastery, the Roman military ruins at Burnum, and the medieval fortress of Nečven, illustrating the region's significance from Roman antiquity through the Middle Ages.

Krka Waterfalls

Krka National Park encompasses a series of seven travertine waterfalls formed by the Krka River's karst landscape. Skradinski Buk features a massive natural pool and seventeen steps of tufa barriers, while Roški slap is distinguished by its 'necklace' cascades and historic watermills. The park also contains Manojlovac, the tallest fall at nearly 60 meters, and Bilušića buk, the only waterfall untouched by hydroelectric diversions. These sites are connected by wooden walkways and located near archaeological remains of the Roman military camp, Burnum.

Scenic Viewpoints

This collection features prominent overlooks across Krka National Park and the neighboring Čikola River canyon. The locations provide views of the region’s distinct karst topography, including the travertine barriers at Roški slap and the 14th-century Ključica fortress. Historic Ruins and Forts

This collection features significant archaeological remains and medieval defensive structures situated along the Krka and Čikola river canyons. It includes Burnum, a first-century Roman military camp containing the only Roman military amphitheater in Croatia. The list also highlights medieval fortresses such as Ključica, the largest in the region, and the strategic riverside forts of Nečven and Trošenj. Additionally, it features the Jaruga Hydroelectric Power Plant, one of the oldest alternating current power systems in the world, established in 1895.
