Iconic Chilean Volcanoes

The Los Lagos region of southern Chile is defined by the Southern Volcanic Zone, featuring a diverse range of volcanic landforms from the perfectly symmetrical cone of Osorno to the rhyolitic caldera of Chaitén. This collection includes highly active stratovolcanoes like Calbuco, which last erupted significantly in 2015, and the extinct basaltic peaks of Cerro Pantoja. These geological features have shaped the surrounding terrain, creating glacial lakes, maars, and unique ecosystems that characterize the Chilean Lake District.
