Historic Churches of Nin

Nin, the oldest Croatian royal town, preserves a collection of early medieval religious sites dating back to the 6th century. This selection includes the 9th-century Church of the Holy Cross, designed to function as a solar calendar, and the fortress-like Church of St. Nicholas. These Pre-Romanesque and Romanesque structures, along with the former cathedral of St. Anselm, reflect Nin's historical significance as a major Christian center and the seat of early Croatian bishops.

Church of the Holy Cross

Dating to the 9th century, this Pre-Romanesque building is known as the "smallest cathedral in the world." Its architecture functions as a sundial, with windows positioned to track the solstices and equinoxes.
