Historic Sites in Nin

Nin serves as a living museum of Croatian history, featuring architecture that spans from the Roman Empire to the medieval royal era. The collection includes the 9th-century Church of the Holy Cross, known for its precise astronomical alignment, and the remains of the largest Roman temple on the Adriatic's eastern shore. This historic center, situated on a small island, is accessible through preserved 16th-century stone gates and houses significant religious monuments, including the 10th-century statue of Bishop Gregory of Nin and the ancient Parish Church of St. Anselm.

A

Church of the Holy Cross

A 9th-century Pre-Romanesque church often referred to as the smallest cathedral in the world. Its architecture was specifically designed to function as a sundial and calendar, tracking the winter and summer solstices.

Zvonik crkve sv. Anselma

A 16th-century stone bell tower that stands independently from the nearby Parish Church of St. Anselm. It is a prominent example of traditional Dalmatian ecclesiastical masonry.

The ruins of the largest Roman temple on the eastern Adriatic coast, constructed in the 1st century AD during the reign of Emperor Vespasian. The site features original Corinthian columns and sanctuary foundations.
