Wilderness Huts & Campsites
Rogaland’s wilderness accommodations range from coastal campsites to remote mountain lodges. This selection includes key basecamps for iconic hikes like Kjerag and Preikestolen, alongside secluded DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) cabins in the Ryfylkeheiane mountains. These sites provide essential services such as self-service kitchens and proximity to historic trails like the old postal route. Whether staying in modern architectural shelters like Kvitlen or historic mountain farms like Mån, these locations offer strategic access to the region's fjords and high plateaus.
Kjerag Lysebotn Camping Resort
Situated at the head of Lysefjord, this resort serves as the primary base for hikers ascending to Kjerag and BASE jumpers. It offers cabins, tent areas, and a restaurant.
Preikestolhytta
A mountain lodge located at the trailhead to the Preikestolen plateau. Operated by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), it provides both private rooms and dormitory-style accommodation.
Preikestolen Camping
Located four kilometers from the Preikestolen trailhead, this site provides leveled pitches for motorhomes, tent areas with electricity, and modern service facilities including a grocery shop.
Haraldshaugen Camping
Coastal campsite in Haugesund located adjacent to the Haraldshaugen national monument. It features views of the North Sea and the historic burial mound of Harald Fairhair.
Friluftshuset Orre
An information center and shelter located at Orrestranda beach. The building features modern wooden architecture designed to blend into the surrounding sand dunes and coastal landscape.
Wathne Camping
Located along the shore of Tysdalsvatnet lake on the Ryfylke National Tourist Route, offering cabin rentals and space for tents and caravans.
Stranddalshytta
Known as the "Pearl of Ryfylke," this staffed lodge sits at 1,000 meters. It is recognized for its traditional stone construction and locally sourced mountain cuisine.
Mån
A restored mountain farm situated near the 92-meter Månafossen waterfall. The self-service cabin offers 34 beds and insight into historical high-altitude farming life.
Trodla-Tysdal
The most remote farm in Ryfylke, accessible only by a steep mountain hike or boat across Lake Tysdalsvatnet. It provides accommodation in a quiet, secluded valley.
Viglesdalen
A self-service DNT cabin located in a glacial valley along the historic trail between Hjelmeland and Lysebotn. Features modern architecture with large floor-to-ceiling windows.
Jonstøl
A modern self-service trekking cabin in the Suldal mountains. It serves as a gateway to the larger Ryfylkeheiane trail network and is accessible via a short hike.
Kvitlen
A modern self-service cabin opened in 2015, located in a lush valley in Bjerkreim. It is designed with contemporary timber aesthetics and serves the trail between Sirdal and Stavanger.
Børsteinen
A self-service cabin situated just off the Fv450 road near Lysebotn. Its location makes it one of the most accessible mountain huts for those exploring the Kjerag area.
Olalia fjellstove
A mountain lodge in the Haugesund mountains, offering both staffed service in peak seasons and self-service facilities. It is a hub for groomed cross-country ski trails.
Melands Grønahei
A high-altitude self-service cabin at 900 meters. It offers panoramic views of the Ryfylkeheiane plateau and is a key stop on the long-distance trail through the Rogaland highlands.
