Port Louis Essentials

Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, preserves its colonial past through the UNESCO-listed Aapravasi Ghat and the 19th-century Fort Adelaide. The city's religious heritage is represented by the Jummah Mosque and St Louis Cathedral, while the Central Market and China Town offer a look into local trade. Modern developments like the Caudan Waterfront contrast with the historic Champ de Mars, the oldest horse racing club in the Southern Hemisphere. This collection highlights the city's architectural evolution and multicultural identity.

Port Louis Highlights

Port Louis serves as the historical anchor of Mauritius, preserving the island's colonial and maritime legacy. This selection features the UNESCO-listed Aapravasi Ghat, the site where the "Great Experiment" of indentured labor began, and the Blue Penny Museum, which houses the world-famous 1847 stamps. The collection also includes specialized museums dedicated to early photography, natural history—featuring rare dodo skeletons—and the island’s postal heritage, all housed within significant 18th and 19th-century architectural landmarks near the capital's waterfront.
