Parks and Iconic Squares

Recife’s public spaces range from historic colonial sites to modern architectural landmarks. Praça Rio Branco, known as Marco Zero, marks the city's foundation point, while the Sculpture Park features over 90 ceramic works by Francisco Brennand on the harbor reefs. Modern additions include the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Dona Lindu Park. Other sites, like the Forte do Arraial Novo do Bom Jesus, preserve 17th-century military history, while Praça Boa Viagem hosts a traditional evening craft market near the shoreline.

Sculpture Park

A sculpture park on the reefs of the port of Recife features over 90 sculptures by Francisco Brennand. Definitely a must-see.

Praça Rio Branco

Known as Marco Zero, this site marks the geographical starting point of the city. It features a large compass rose floor mural by artist Cícero Dias and offers views of the harbor and the nearby Sculpture Park.

Parque Forte do Arraial Novo do Bom Jesus

A historic site preserving the location of a 17th-century fortification used during the resistance against Dutch occupation. The grounds feature green spaces and commemorative markers of the Luso-Brazilian victory.

Dona Lindu

Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, this seaside complex houses the Luiz Mendonça Theater and the Janete Costa Art Gallery. The concrete structure includes a skating rink, playground, and multi-purpose sports courts.

Praça Boa Viagem

Located along the coast, this space houses the 18th-century Church of Our Lady of Boa Viagem. It is well-known for hosting a daily evening market featuring traditional Pernambuco crafts and regional street food.

Praça do Entroncamento

Located in the Graças neighborhood, this area is characterized by mature trees and classic landscaping. It serves as a quiet green space at the intersection of several major city avenues.
