Sacred Sites and Cemeteries

Sitges’ religious heritage spans from clifftop chapels to ornate seaside necropolises. This collection includes the 18th-century Santuari del Vinyet, known for its maritime ex-votos, and the Ermita de la Trinitat, a traditional whitewashed hermitage overlooking the Mediterranean. The historic Cementiri de Sant Sebastià showcases Catalan Modernista funerary art, while the Chapel of Sant Sebastià and the modern Cementiri de les Pruelles offer insight into the town's evolving spiritual and architectural history.

Ermita de la Trinitat

A traditional whitewashed Mediterranean hermitage situated on a hill within the Garraf Massif. It offers panoramic views of the coastline and features simple religious architecture typical of the region.

Santuari Nostra Senyora del Vinyet

An 18th-century neoclassical sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of El Vinyet. The interior houses a notable collection of ex-votos, including miniature ships offered by sailors in gratitude for protection at sea.

Sant Sebastià

An 18th-century chapel located adjacent to the historic cemetery and San Sebastián beach. This small, whitewashed place of worship is a characteristic example of local religious architecture.

Cementiri de les Pruelles

A modern cemetery established to serve the expanding population of Sitges. It provides contemporary funerary services in a quiet setting away from the historic town center.

Cementiri de Sant Sebastià

A historic seaside cemetery recognized for its significant collection of Catalan Modernista funerary sculptures. It contains works by prominent artists and is part of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe.
