This UNESCO World Heritage site protects a vast network of over 1,000 caves and dramatic limestone formations. Significant sites include Domica Cave, featuring an underground river, and Krásnohorská Cave, home to one of the world's largest stalagmites. The landscape is defined by the 300-meter-deep Zádielska canyon and unique hydrological features like the Hrhovský waterfall, situated directly within a village. The region also preserves rare microclimates, such as the year-round ice in the Silická ľadnica chasm and endemic flora on the slopes of Turniansky hradný vrch.
