Coastal Retreats

Split’s shoreline ranges from the shallow sandy bays of the eastern city center to the rugged pebble coves at the foot of Marjan Hill. Bačvice is the city’s primary sandy beach and the birthplace of picigin, a traditional ball game played in the shallow water. Further east, Firule and Ovčice provide sheltered sandy shores and calm waters. To the west, Ježinac features stone piers and historic columns, while Kašjuni offers a deep, pebble-lined bay surrounded by pine forests and steep cliffs.
