Swakopmund Highlights

Swakopmund showcases a distinct legacy of German colonial architecture along Namibia's Skeleton Coast. Museum Swakopmund

Founded in 1951, this museum features extensive exhibits on Namibian history, flora, fauna, and German colonial life. It is located at the foot of the town's lighthouse.

Woermannhaus

Built in 1905 as the headquarters for the Woermann-Linie shipping company, this building is a prime example of German colonial architecture featuring a timber-framed courtyard.

Jetty

A historic pier dating back to 1905. The current iron structure, completed in 1912, was originally used for offloading cargo and now serves as a scenic walkway.

Mole

A sea wall and breakwater built in 1899 to create an artificial harbor. It now protects a popular sandy swimming beach and recreational area.

Kristall Galerie

This mineral museum houses the world's largest quartz crystal cluster and a wide collection of Namibian gemstones, crystals, and a reconstructed crystal cave.

State House

Constructed in 1902 as the Imperial District Court, this historic building later became the summer residence for the President of Namibia.

Martin Luther Steam Engine

An abandoned 1896 steam traction engine that became permanently stuck in the desert sand. It stands as a monument to early industrial transport challenges in Namibia.
