Museums of Tulcea

Tulcea’s museums offer a specialized look into the ecological and cultural landscape of the Danube Delta region. The collection includes one of Romania's largest aquariums, a neoclassical merchant's mansion, and galleries dedicated to the multicultural heritage of Northern Dobruja. These institutions are primarily housed in 19th-century historical buildings near the Danube waterfront, focusing on local biodiversity, modern Romanian art, and the traditional crafts of the area's diverse ethnic communities.

Danube Delta Eco-touristic Centre

This center features a large aquarium showcasing Danube Delta fish species, including sturgeons. Exhibits detail the biosphere reserve's ecosystems, bird migration patterns, and the traditional architecture of local fishing villages.

Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art

Housed in a former bank building, this museum displays the multicultural heritage of Northern Dobruja. The collection includes traditional costumes, tools, and household items representing Romanian, Lipovan, and Turkish ethnic groups.

"AVRAMIDE" HOUSE

A restored 1899 neoclassical mansion built by merchant Alexandru Avramide. It features ornate ceilings, period furniture, and serves as a cultural venue for historical exhibitions and local art events.

Institute for Eco-Museum Researches

The central administrative and research hub for Tulcea’s museum network. It focuses on the conservation of regional archaeological sites and the management of the city’s natural and historical collections.

Art Museum

Located in the former Administrative Palace built in the 1860s, this gallery holds over 700 works of modern and contemporary Romanian art, including significant collections of paintings, sculptures, and religious icons.
