Utrecht's Historic Treasures
Utrecht’s heritage spans centuries, from the 1924 Rietveld Schröder House—a masterpiece of De Stijl architecture—to the expansive New Dutch Waterline defense system. This collection highlights the city's military history through various 19th-century forts and lunettes, alongside industrial landmarks like the Houtzaagmolen De Ster sawmill. Cultural sites include the Museum Speelklok’s self-playing instruments and the Joods Monument, while modern public sculptures like the Justice Column reflect the city’s evolving artistic and social landscape.
Fort de Bilt
Part of the New Dutch Waterline, this 19th-century fortification now serves as a memorial and educational center focusing on human rights and the history of World War II.
Lunet III
One of four crescent-shaped fortifications built in the 1820s on the Houtense Vlakte to defend the city’s southern flank as part of the New Dutch Waterline.
Lunet IV
A 19th-century crescent-shaped defensive work forming part of the Utrecht Lunettes. It currently serves as a community space and social enterprise hub.
