Вальтице
Valtice is a small Baroque town in South Moravia, built around a historic château that once served as the seat of the House of Liechtenstein. Along with neighboring Lednice, it forms the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 shaped by the Liechtensteins into a single designed landscape of palaces, parkland, and garden follies.
The town itself has fewer than 4,000 residents, but it carries an outsized reputation as the Czech Republic's unofficial wine capital: its château cellars host the National Wine Salon, an annual showcase of the country's best wines. Valtice suits travelers who want to combine Baroque architecture and a walkable historic square with wine tasting in a compact, easygoing base, and it pairs naturally with a stop in Lednice or the wider Moravian wine region.

Когда ехать
Summers are warm and mostly dry, the best time to walk or cycle between the château and its garden pavilions. Spring and early autumn are mild and quieter, while winter is cold with occasional snow and few visitors. Plan around the Valtice Wine Market, a judged wine competition held every May in the château's riding hall, when producers from across the country bring their best bottles for tasting.

Главные достопримечательности
Zámek Valtice is the town's centerpiece, a Baroque château that served as the historic seat of the House of Liechtenstein. Its vaulted cellars now hold the National Wine Salon, a standing exhibition of around a hundred of the country's award-winning wines.
On the main square, Nanebevzetí Panny Marie is a large Baroque parish church built between 1631 and 1671, its altar paintings linked to the workshop of Peter Paul Rubens.
The parkland stretching toward Lednice is scattered with garden follies built for the Liechtensteins as scenic stops on a walk or ride. Kolonáda na Reistně is a hilltop colonnade in the form of a Roman triumphal arch, built as a memorial to a prince's father and brothers, with sweeping views over the vineyards toward the Austrian border.
letohrádek Rendezvous is another Roman-arch folly, built as a hunting lodge where parties gathered before heading into the surrounding forest.
Belveder started life as a pheasantry and is now an Empire-style pavilion with an octagonal domed hall, serving as a café.
Tři Grácie is a semicircular colonnade with twelve columns, sheltering a sculpture group of three goddesses carved from a single block of stone.
Apollonův chrám is a small neoclassical pavilion on a hill above a fishpond, one of the earliest follies built in the shared park.
Kaple sv. Huberta is a small Neo-Gothic chapel in the Boří les forest between Valtice and Břeclav, dedicated to the patron saint of hunters.

Поездки на один день
Valtice sits at the southern edge of Moravia's wine country, right on the Austrian border.
- Lednice — around 10 minutes by bike or car, Valtice's UNESCO twin: a Neo-Gothic château, a huge landscaped park, and a minaret-shaped tower.
- Břeclav — about 15 minutes by car or train, the region's main rail junction with fast connections to Vienna, Brno, and Prague.
- Mikulov — around 25 minutes by car, a hilltop wine town with its own castle and a well-preserved Jewish quarter.
- Pálava — around 30 minutes by car, a limestone ridge with hiking trails, vineyards, and views over the Nové Mlýny reservoirs.
- Brno — about an hour by car or train, Moravia's capital, with Špilberk Castle and the UNESCO-listed Villa Tugendhat.
- Vienna — about an hour by car, across the border in Austria, a full flagship day out if you have the time.
Куда ещё съездить
Valtice shares its UNESCO status with neighboring Lednice, a short bike ride north across the shared parkland — together the two towns and the lakes and follies between them form a single protected landscape. For more wine cellars and hillside views, Mikulov is the region's main wine-tourism hub, a half-hour drive west.
Как добраться
- By air: Vienna Airport (VIE) in Austria is the closest major international gateway, about 65 km away — roughly an hour by car. Brno-Tuřany Airport (BRQ) is a similar distance, around 55 km, but has only a handful of scheduled routes.
- By train: Valtice has its own small station on the branch line to Břeclav, the region's main rail junction on the Vienna-Prague/Brno line, about 15 minutes away.
- By bus: regional buses connect Valtice to Břeclav, Lednice, and Mikulov; the main stop is close to the main square.
Транспорт
- Public transit: South Moravia's integrated network, IDS JMK, covers regional buses to nearby towns; buy tickets from the driver or through the IDS JMK app.
- On foot: the château, main square, and town center are all within easy walking distance of each other.
- Cycling: marked wine routes link Valtice to Lednice and the wider region; bikes can be rented in town.
Вождение автомобиля
- Is a car worth it?: not for Valtice itself — the château, square, and town center are all walkable — but a car (or bike) helps for reaching Lednice, Mikulov, and the wider wine region, plus the short hop across the border to Austria.
- Parking: pay parking lots sit near the château and along the approach roads into the center; street parking on the main square is limited.
- Restrictions: none beyond normal Czech road rules — no congestion charge or low-emission zone here.
Еда и напитки
Valtice calls itself the Czech Republic's wine capital, and the title is not just marketing: Zámek Valtice's cellars permanently showcase the year's best Czech wines, and the town hosts the country's leading wine competition each spring. The area's dry whites — Ryzlink rýnský, Veltlínské zelené, and Pálava — are the wines to seek out.
For meals, look to the restaurants and wine bars around the main square and near the château entrance, or book a tasting at one of the small family cellars scattered through town — this is a place built for pairing food with wine rather than seeking out a single destination restaurant.
Безопасность и здоровье
Valtice is a safe, low-crime destination with no particular hazards for travelers. The main practical consideration is seasonal crowding: parking and cellar tastings can book up during the September-October harvest season, so reserve ahead if visiting then.
История
The House of Liechtenstein acquired Valtice at the end of the 14th century and held it until the family's Czechoslovak property was confiscated in 1945; for much of that time, Valtice, not Lednice, served as the family's principal seat in Moravia. The medieval castle here was rebuilt into the Baroque Zámek Valtice mainly under Prince Karl Eusebius in the 17th century, with the surrounding parkland gradually filled with follies and garden pavilions over the following two hundred years.
On the main square, Nanebevzetí Panny Marie was built between 1631 and 1671 and stands beside the château as the town's other major landmark.
The Liechtensteins' landscaping stretched north to connect with their estate at Lednice, and in 1996 the whole designed landscape — château, parkland, and follies shared between the two towns — was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After 1945 the château passed into state ownership; it now combines its role as a historic monument with hosting the National Wine Salon in its cellars.
