Hidden Gems of Berat

Beyond the central quarters of Mangalem and Gorica, Berat’s historical depth is revealed through the ruins of its Ottoman past and local cultural landmarks. Within the citadel walls, the 15th-century remains of the White and Red Mosques stand alongside ancient water cisterns. The iconic seven-arched Gorica Bridge connects the city's historic districts, while the Edward Lear Art Gallery showcases regional artistry. White mosque

The ruins of a 15th-century Ottoman mosque located within the Berat Castle walls. Built primarily for the Ottoman garrison and passing caravans, its limestone foundations remain visible today.

Red Mosque

One of the oldest mosques in Albania, dating back to the early 15th century. Located inside the citadel, it is distinguished by its surviving cylindrical minaret built from red brick and limestone.

A historic underground water storage facility located inside the Berat Castle complex, designed to supply the citadel's residents during periods of siege.

Gorica Bridge

An 18th-century stone bridge spanning the Osum River. Rebuilt in its current form in the 1920s, it features seven arches and connects the Mangalem and Gorica neighborhoods.

Named after the 19th-century English landscape painter, this gallery features a collection of works by local artists and hosts exhibitions focused on regional cultural heritage.
