Six landscaped areas present ecosystems of various parts of the world, which were explored by the Portuguese during the Age of Discovery. The gardens were designed by João Gomes da Silva and the name commemorates Garcia de Orta, a famous Portuguese physician and herbalist.
The garden is located in the Park of the Nations area.
