Bergamo Highlights

Bergamo's Città Alta is a walled Renaissance hill town lifted almost intact above the modern city below. This walk crosses its medieval gate towers and Venetian ramparts, and the square where the cathedral, a great Romanesque basilica, and a mercenary captain's marble mausoleum stand side by side. Nine stops, roughly an hour of walking plus time to linger, with an optional climb to a hilltop castle at the end. The walk starts at Torre del Gombito on Via Gombito, a short walk up from the top station of the Città Alta funicular.
