Historic Sites and Ruins
Pskov’s historical landscape is defined by massive stone fortifications and defensive architecture dating back to the 12th century. The centerpiece is the Pskov Krom, a medieval citadel at the confluence of the Velikaya and Pskova rivers. Surrounding the fortress are several preserved watchtowers, including the massive Pokrovskaya and the Gremyachaya towers, which formed a formidable defensive ring. The city also features significant monuments, such as the memorial to the 16th-century Siege of Pskov and statues honoring Princess Olga and soldiers from both World Wars.
