Alpine Huts

These high-altitude refuges across the Savoie region serve as vital stops on major hiking routes, including the Tour du Mont Blanc and the GR5. Ranging from 1,690 to over 2,400 meters in elevation, they provide dormitory accommodation and meals for trekkers. The selection includes remote stone structures in the Vanoise National Park and accessible former farmsteads in the Maurienne valley, offering access to glacial lakes and high mountain passes.

Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme

Situated at 2,443 meters, this stone refuge marks the intersection of the Tour du Mont Blanc and the GR5 trails. It serves as a strategic junction for hikers crossing between the Beaufortain and Mont Blanc massifs.

Refuge des Lacs Merlet

The smallest refuge in the Vanoise National Park, located at 2,417 meters. It sits adjacent to the Lacs Merlet, which includes the deepest natural lake in the park.

Refuge des Marches

A traditional stone and wood hut at 2,183 meters on the GR5 trail. It provides a base for exploring the Maurienne valley and the Thabor massif.

Refuge du Suffet

A former high-altitude dairy farm at 1,690 meters in the Haute Maurienne. Accessible by road, it serves as a gateway to the Petit Mont-Cenis and the Ambin valley.

Refuge Lo Tsamou

A private shepherd-style hut at 2,060 meters in the Ambin valley. It features traditional Savoyard architecture and is located near the Ambin stream along the Via Alpina.

Refuge de Grand Plan

Located at 2,300 meters within the Vanoise National Park. The hut offers access to the Lacs Merlet and serves hikers traversing the Vanoise glaciers.
