Walk the royal town that King Přemysl Otakar II founded in 1265 to keep the powerful lords of South Bohemia in check. From one of the largest squares in Central Europe, with its Baroque Samson Fountain and a stone you should not step on, the tour loops through the compact old town: the South Bohemian Museum, a surviving tower of the medieval walls by the river, the Dominican monastery and the Renaissance salt house, the old meat market, and finally the Black Tower beside St Nicholas Cathedral. It starts on the main square, a short walk from the train and bus stations.

Discover how a fire and one ambitious nobleman shaped Telč, the small UNESCO-listed town in the Vysočina highlands. This short walk follows Zachariáš of Hradec's sixteenth-century rebuilding: through the Upper Gate, along the arcaded market square with its gabled houses, out through the Lower Gate to the fishponds that protected and funded the town, past the Gothic church of St James, and into the Italian-style chateau. It starts at the Upper Gate on Palackého Street, about ten minutes on foot from Telč's bus and train stations.

You'll see one of Europe's largest synagogues, the theatre named after the author of the Czech national anthem, and St Bartholomew's Cathedral with the country's tallest church tower. Then follow the brewers' streets past the Brewery Museum and the medieval meat stalls to the gate of the Pilsner Urquell brewery. Seven stops, about 2 km and 90 minutes on foot. The walk starts at the Great Synagogue on the park ring, a few minutes' walk west of the main square.

The tour starts at Vlkova Tower, a medieval tower on the town walls at the lower corner of Masaryk Square, and climbs the square to the Gothic Town Hall Tower, above the tunnels of the Znojmo Underground. It continues to St Nicholas' Church and the Karolina Gate viewpoint, passes the old Minorite monastery, and ends at the castle and the Romanesque Rotunda of St Catherine.
