Beaches & Coastline

The Iveragh Peninsula’s coastline features diverse maritime landscapes, from the six-kilometer sand spit of Rossbeigh to the sheltered waters of Derrynane. These sites offer clear views of the Skellig Islands and the Dingle Peninsula. Key features include the 16th-century McCarthy Mor castle ruins at Ballinskelligs and Blue Flag designations across several beaches, indicating high water quality and adherence to environmental standards.

Rossbeigh Beach

A six-kilometer sandy spit near Glenbeigh. Part of a Special Area of Conservation, it features high dunes and views across Dingle Bay toward the Dingle Peninsula.

Derrynane Beach

Blue Flag sandy beach located adjacent to the historic Derrynane House. It features a natural harbor, granite outcrops, and views of Scariff and Deenish Islands.

St Finians Bay Beach

Also known as Glen Beach, this small sandy cove faces the Skellig Rocks. It is characterized by strong Atlantic swells and is a known location for experienced surfers.

Kells Beach

A small, sheltered sandy beach and harbor located within a deep cove. The geography provides protection from Atlantic winds and offers views across Dingle Bay.

Ballinskellig Beach

Blue Flag beach featuring the ruins of the 16th-century Ballinskelligs Castle, also known as McCarthy Mor Tower House. The beach is situated within a Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) region.

White Strand Beach

Located near Cahersiveen, this Blue Flag beach faces Valentia Island. It is a sheltered sandy cove designated as a Special Area of Conservation.
