Kodagu Essentials

Kodagu, situated in the Western Ghats, features a distinct blend of 19th-century architecture and high-altitude landscapes. This collection includes the Gothic-styled Madikeri Museum, the Indo-Saracenic Omkareshwara Temple, and royal retreats like Nalkunadu Palace. Natural landmarks range from the source of the Kaveri River at Tala Kaveri to the peaks of Tadiandamol and Mandalapatti, alongside the region's significant waterfalls and the elephant conservation center at Dubare.

Madikeri Palace

A 19th-century palace rebuilt in 1812 by Linga Rajendra II. The structure features two life-sized elephant statues at the entrance and currently houses government offices and a small museum.

Raja Seat

A seasonal garden with a brick-and-mortar structure once used by the Kings of Kodagu to observe the sunset over the surrounding valleys.

Omkareshwara Temple

Built in 1820, this Shiva temple features a unique architectural blend of Islamic and Gothic styles, characterized by a central dome and four minarets.

Madikeri Museum

Housed in the former St. Mark's Church, this museum contains 11th-century stone sculptures, historical weapons, and artifacts related to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa.

Nalkunadu Palace

A two-story royal retreat built in 1792 by Dodda Virarajendra. It features intricate wood carvings and wall paintings depicting royal processions at the foot of Tadiandamol.

Mandalapatti

A hilltop viewpoint within the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary accessible by 4x4 vehicles, offering panoramic views of the Western Ghats and evergreen forests.

Kaveri Nisargadhama

A 64-acre island formed by the Kaveri River, accessible via a hanging rope bridge. The park contains bamboo groves, sandalwood trees, and a deer park.

Tala Kaveri

The source of the Kaveri River located on Brahmagiri Hill, featuring a sacred tank and a temple dedicated to Agastyeshwara.

Tadiandamol

Tadiandamol or Thadiyandamol is the highest mountain of Madikeri taluk Kodagu district, Karnataka, India.

Abbi Falls

A 70-foot waterfall where the Kaveri River cascades over a rocky cliff. It is situated amidst coffee and spice plantations with a hanging bridge for viewing.

Irupu Falls

Also known as Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, this cascade in the Brahmagiri Range is a pilgrimage site located near the ancient Rameshwara Temple.

Dubare Elephant Camp

An elephant conservation and training center on the banks of the Kaveri River where visitors can observe the bathing and feeding routines of the resident elephants.
