Muscat showcases Omani architecture and maritime history through landmarks like the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which features a massive hand-woven carpet and Swarovski chandelier. The waterfront district of Mutrah houses a centuries-old labyrinthine souq and a restored 16th-century Portuguese fort.
