This collection highlights the geological landmarks and high-altitude shelters of the Eastern Carpathians, centered around the Cheile Bicazului-Hășmaș National Park and the Ceahlău Massif. It features the 300-meter limestone walls of the Bicaz Gorge, iconic monoliths like Piatra Teiului in Lake Izvorul Muntelui, and the 1,792-meter Hășmașu Mare peak. The list includes a network of scenic viewpoints, traditional alpine sheepfolds (stână), and mountain cabins that serve as essential basecamps for exploring Romania’s rugged limestone terrain.
Altar stone
The most prominent rock tower in the Bicaz Gorge, standing at 1,154 meters. It is a landmark of the Hășmaș Mountains and a significant site for technical rock climbing.
Canyon stone
A massive limestone formation located within the Bicaz Gorge, contributing to the dramatic vertical landscape of the Hășmaș Mountains.
Cheile Bicazului
A narrow limestone pass connecting Moldavia and Transylvania. It features vertical cliffs up to 300 meters high and follows the serpentine path of the Bicaz River.
