Nelson Bay offers some of Australia's most accessible shore diving and pristine coastal landscapes. The Fly Point-Halifax Aquatic Reserve protects a diverse ecosystem of sponge gardens, sea horses, and nudibranchs, while The Pipeline provides a specialized macro photography site. For coastal recreation, Dutchmans Beach offers calm waters and family-friendly amenities. Samurai Beach, located within Tomaree National Park, features expansive sand dunes and 4WD access. Local dive operators provide the necessary equipment and guided tours to explore these temperate marine environments.

Fly Point

Marine reserve featuring sponge gardens and seagrass beds. Home to blue groupers, wobbegongs, and sea horses. Best dived at high tide slack water.

Halifax

Deep shore dive site with a steep drop-off. Features large sponge gardens, schools of snapper, and eagle rays. Located at the eastern end of Nelson Bay.

Sandy Beach

North-facing beach with calm waters and white sand. Includes public barbecues, a playground, and a paved walking track connecting to the town center.

Clothing-optional beach accessible via 4WD tracks. Part of Tomaree National Park, it is known for its large sand dunes and surf conditions.
