Historic Ruins and Ancient Sites

Explore the Pajarito Plateau's archaeological heritage through these eight significant sites. This collection includes ancestral Tewa pueblo ruins like Tsirege and Otowi, alongside defensive structures like the 19th-century Fort Marcy. Visitors can observe prehistoric cavates and trail ruts at Tsankawi, see hundreds of 14th-century rock art panels at La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs, and view 20th-century remains at Camp Hamilton and Duchess Castle. These sites offer a timeline of human habitation from ancient indigenous civilizations to military and homesteading eras.
