Historic Churches & Chapels

Skyros hosts a collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine religious sites, anchored by the 10th-century Monastery of Saint George, which sits below the Byzantine castle. These chapels, often situated near the coast or on rocky outcrops, showcase traditional Aegean architecture with whitewashed walls and terracotta details. Many serve as focal points for local festivals and house historical icons and intricate wood-carved screens.

Mone Agiou Georgiou

A 10th-century Byzantine monastery perched below the Kastro. It features a notable wood-carved iconostasis and is a dependency of the Megisti Lavra Monastery on Mount Athos.

Kyra Panagia
