Religious Heritage

Zanjan Province preserves a diverse range of Islamic architecture spanning the Ilkhanid and Qajar periods. The centerpiece is the UNESCO-listed Soltaniyeh Dome, featuring the world’s third-largest brick dome and intricate turquoise tilework. The collection includes significant Qajar-era landmarks like the Jameh and Khanom Mosques, known for their four-iwan designs, alongside Hosseiniyeh Azam, a major site for Muharram ceremonies, and several local shrines dedicated to the descendants of the Imams.

Mausoleum of Oljaytu

A UNESCO World Heritage site, this 14th-century Ilkhanid mausoleum features the world’s third-largest brick dome. It is renowned for its double-shell structure, turquoise tilework, and elaborate interior stuccos.

Khanom Mosque

Khanoom Mosque is related to the Qajar dynasty and is located in Zanjan, Imam Street.

Hsynyh azm

A prominent Shia religious center in Zanjan, famous for hosting one of the largest annual mourning processions in Iran during Muharram. It serves as a key site for traditional religious ceremonies.

Msjd jam

Also known as the Seyyed Mosque, this 19th-century Qajar-era structure follows a traditional four-iwan architectural plan with a large central courtyard and decorated minarets.

Amamzadh asmayl w abrahym

A religious shrine and pilgrimage site dedicated to the descendants of the Imams, featuring traditional Iranian tomb architecture.
