Historic Landmarks of Alicante

Alicante’s history is defined by its strategic coastal position, visible in the 9th-century Castle of Santa Bárbara on Mount Benacantil and the 18th-century Baroque Town Hall. A unique feature of the region is the Huerta de Alicante defensive network, a series of 16th and 17th-century watchtowers like Torre El Ciprés and Torre de Santa Faz built to protect against pirate raids. The city also preserves sites of modern historical significance, including memorials from the Spanish Civil War.
