Archaeological Sites

The Ancash region of Peru preserves a dense concentration of pre-Columbian history, spanning from the Formative period to the Inca Empire. Key sites include the UNESCO-listed Chavín de Huántar, a ceremonial center known for its stone carvings and underground galleries, and Chankillo, the oldest solar observatory in the Americas. Coastal sites like Cerro Sechín and Sechín Alto feature early monumental architecture and megalithic carvings, while the high-altitude ruins of Wilcahuaín showcase Wari influence.
