Archaeological and Historic Sites

This collection highlights the archaeological landscape of the Bari hinterland, specifically around the Ceglie del Campo and Carbonara districts. The list features a significant concentration of 'ipogei'—ancient rock-cut chambers used as dwellings, olive oil mills, and places of worship, such as the 10th-century Basilica of Santa Candida. These sites, alongside medieval watchtowers like Torre Rossa and prehistoric menhirs, provide a physical record of the region's transition from Peucetian settlements to medieval rural estates.
