Religious & Spiritual Sites

This collection spans the diverse spiritual heritage of the Çanakkale region, from the 14th-century Murathüdavendigar Mosque in Assos to the 19th-century Church of the Virgin Mary on Bozcaada. It includes the Gelibolu Mevlevihanesi, one of the world's largest Sufi lodges, and significant memorial sites like the Sargıyeri Şehitliği and the tomb of nationalist poet Namık Kemal. These sites reflect the intersection of Ottoman architecture, Sufi traditions, and the solemn military history of the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Church of the Virgin Mary

Built in 1869, this Greek Orthodox church is the only active place of Christian worship on Bozcaada. It features a distinctive four-story bell tower and an ornate interior.

Behramkale Köyü Murathüdavendigar Cami

A 14th-century mosque built during the reign of Sultan Murad I. Located at the summit of Assos, it features a square plan and a single dome, incorporating stones from nearby ancient structures.

Gelibolu Mevlevihanesi

Established in the 17th century, this is one of the largest and most significant Mevlevi lodges in the world. It served as a major center for Sufi education and Whirling Dervish ceremonies.

Tomb of Namık Kemal

The final resting place of the influential Ottoman poet and intellectual Namık Kemal. Located in Bolayır, the tomb was designed by the poet Tevfik Fikret and reflects late Ottoman architectural styles.

Sargıyeri Şehitliği

A memorial and cemetery on the Gallipoli Peninsula located at the site of a former battlefield dressing station. It honors the soldiers who died at this field hospital during the 1915 Çanakkale Campaign.
