Volcanoes and Peaks

El Salvador’s topography is defined by a central chain of stratovolcanoes and expansive calderas. This selection includes Santa Ana, the country’s highest peak with its distinct turquoise sulfur lake, and Izalco, a young cone historically used as a navigational landmark by sailors. The list spans from the western border at Chingo to the eastern slopes of Conchagua, which overlooks the Gulf of Fonseca. It also features major water-filled craters like Lake Ilopango and Coatepeque, representing significant geological depressions formed by massive prehistoric eruptions.
