Archaeological Sites in Funen

Funen’s landscape is a chronicle of Danish history, spanning from Neolithic megaliths to medieval strongholds. This collection features the impressive Mårhøj passage grave and the Lindeskov dolmen, alongside significant Bronze Age burial mounds like Lusehøj near Assens. The list also includes medieval defensive structures, such as the Ørkild castle ruins in Svendborg and the 13th-century Hindsgavl Voldsted, illustrating the island's strategic importance through the centuries.

Ørkild Voldsted

The remains of a medieval castle in Svendborg. Once a significant fortification, it was destroyed during the Count's Feud in 1534.
