Religious Heritage

Guadix’s religious architecture spans the 16th to 18th centuries, showcasing the transition from Mudejar and Gothic styles to Renaissance and Baroque. The monumental Cathedral of the Incarnation, built over a former mosque, serves as the city's spiritual centerpiece. Surrounding it, the Iglesia de Santiago and various historic convents preserve intricate coffered ceilings and Plateresque facades, reflecting the city's ecclesiastical expansion following the Reconquista.

Guadix Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Incarnation is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Guadix, Spain.

Iglesia de Santiago

A 16th-century church designed by architect Diego de Siloé. It features a notable Plateresque portal and a well-preserved Mudejar coffered ceiling, representing a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles.

Iglesia de San Torcuato

An 18th-century Baroque church dedicated to the patron saint of Guadix. It was built on the site where the remains of San Torcuato were discovered and houses several significant religious artworks.

Convento de la Concepción

A 16th-century convent featuring a distinctive Mudejar tower and a Renaissance cloister. It was founded on the site of former Moorish houses and remains an active religious site.

Iglesia de San Francisco de Asís

Part of a 16th-century Franciscan convent, this church is characterized by its Mudejar wooden ceiling and Baroque altarpieces. It reflects the city's post-Reconquista ecclesiastical expansion.
